How to renew your Minnesota driver's license
To renew your Minnesota driver's license, you must go in person to your local DMV office. The state of Minnesota does not allow you to renew your Minnesota driver's license online or by mail.Having an expired driver's license is illegal in Minnesota so make sure to always be aware of the status of your driver's license.
To renew your Minnesota driver's license, Be prepared to:
- Bring your old license and provide your Social Security number (if you don't have one, you can check the appropriate box on the form).
- Get a new picture taken.
- Pass a vision screening.
- Pay $24 for a Class D, $20.50 for a provisional license upgrade, or $15 for a provisional. Check with the office to see if they accept credit cards; checks and cash are the best bets.
Also keep in mind that appointments are not accepted when renewing your Minnesota driver's license.
